FALCON Prototype of a novel self sensing cantilever

SCL and its six partner organisations have developed a novel self sensing cantilever based on a patented technology with nano-granular tunnelling resistors (NTR) as sensor elements during the EU FP7 project ALBICAN.

The following project FALCON aims now for bringing this cantilever type to the market. This novel type of electric sensor removes the need for optical laser detection of the cantilever deflection. It increases the usability of the cantilever, saves laser adjusting time and freeing up the space above the cantilever for e.g. combined AFM/SEM techniques.

In the following PDF (page 37, FFG Fokus, 08/2014) you can download an article (in German) about the FALCON project with an image of the NTR-cantilever.
