The development of AFM instrumentation has increasingly gone to higher imaging speeds. As a result, high resonance frequency piezo stacks have replaced the conventional piezo tubes.

In order to operate these piezo stacks at the desired frequencies, much more powerful amplifiers are needed than previously available.
